Overwhelming Care – OC 2

Fu Kwan had arranged to meet one of his NS buddies at a fast food restaurant. While queuing up to place his order, he noticed a familiar face at the counter. It was Lillian. Though he knew that she worked in a fast food restaurant, he didn't know which restaurant she was at. As he approached the counter, Lillian's eyes caught him. Suddenly, a feeling of twitchiness came over her and she couldn't help stealing a glimpse of him in-between serving those in the queue. Soon, he was standing right in front of her and Fu Kwan had to repeat his order before she heard what he wanted.

Since that chance encounter, Fu Kwan would arrange to meet his prospective clients at Lillian's place of work. He would arrive early for his appointment and occupy a table that would give him a clear view of Lillian's working area. He would then discreetly watch Lillian as she carry out her duties. Lillian, on the other hand, would do likewise when Fu Kwan was doing his sales talk. She would take longer than usual to clear the tables around him but would make a hasty retreat when Fu Kwan looked in her direction. It seemed that both had developed sort of a mutual interest in what the other was doing but was, at the same time, fearful that the other party would discover what the other was doing.

One evening, just as Lillian was leaving for home after her shift, she ran into Fu Kwan at the exit. Actually, he had been waiting there for her to knock off. He claimed that he was on his way to pay her grandmother a visit and was wondering if she would like a lift home. Lillian nodded and followed Fu Kwan to his recently acquired second hand Honda. On the way back, the atmosphere was one of uptightness and Fu Kwan tried to break the uneasy silence by asking how her day was. Lillian responded with only a nod. Though Fu Kwan was a seasoned salesperson, it wasn't easy getting timid Lillian to speak up. Not wanting to push her too hard, he remained mum until Lillian enquired about his work. That got Fu Kwan chattering away and telling her how he would handle his difficult clients. Lillian giggled as he described his experiences with much drama.

That hearty chat sowed the seed for the growth of a romantic relationship. They began seeing more of each other and soon Fu Kwan became very much a part of Lillian's family. He would organise outings to the various places of interest and would buy them stuff that they used to envy when their peers showed them off. In fact, life had never been the same since Fu Kwan entered their lives and Lillian was grateful for the improvements that he had initiated. Thus, it wasn't surprising that Lillian chose to join Fu Kwan in his line of work after her graduation.

Having been an introvert most of her life, it wasn't easy for Lillian to change to one who could do sales presentation in front of strangers. Fortunately, Fu Kwan would always be there to guide her and to usher her out of any awkward situation. Gradually, Lillian got the hang of it and was finally able to close her own deal. She was actually so enrapt by her first success that she gave Fu Kwan a peck on his cheek, much to the delight of a stunned Fu Kwan.
